Author: Laini Taylor
Provided Synopsis: Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.
While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope. But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?
Review: This book was GOOD! What an excellent sequel! Not only were the characters we met in the first book returned, we as readers got to learn more about them along with some intriguing new characters.
What I enjoyed so much about this book was the way it looked into war. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was a story that set up and explained the war and political climate of Eretz to us, while also telling us how Akiva and Karou fit into the story of a never ending struggle between creatures. But Days of Blood & Starlight looked into what could only come next — war. It asked difficult questions and expected the characters to provide answers. Why do we continue to fight for those who have morals and goals we do not agree with? To what ends do we spread terror? When is enough finally enough? Is there another way; can we achieve peace?
There were so many turns that I did not expect coming and that I look forward to in the final book of the trilogy. If Brimstone could grant me a wish then it would be to have this book before 2014!
